John Henley is a graduate of the Industrial Design program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Growing up in Oregon, he spent his childhood exploring the natural world around him, fostering an interest in the landscape and a passion for sustaining it. His design practice integrates traditional craft processes with contemporary praxis; particularly, his work leverages the qualities of diverse materialities and processes to drive design outcomes. He’s interested in how tangible experiences can enhance our connection with the objects, spaces, landscapes, and people around us.
John is always exploring new materials and processes to employ in his work. While his primary discipline is woodworking, he’s experienced in ceramics, glass, resins, metals, soft goods, and textiles. He believes in a deep engagement between making and designing, with diverse hands-on experiences constantly informing the next project.
